From the perspective of  the radical 60s - as Sage Colleague, CURMUDGEON recalls in her article:  “... it's really not new. I was hosed during the Democratic Convention in 1968 in Chicago because I believed in the United States Constitution” - "Radical?”  or simply a continuation of something started decades ago? However, the power of a large "boomer consumer" group (especially women's buying choices and CLOUT)  to influence the market and its direction can accelerate positive futures for Post-50 People  now and for generations to come.

  • Lifelong Homes based on a Designed- For-All  Concept.

  • Neighborhood enterprises.

  • Increasing  respect for the value of each person- regardless of age or physical ability-  equal status.

    -- for all stakeholders.

  • A new call to action.

a new vision - CULTURAL CREATIVES - ON PUTTING A PLAN IN PLACE

Cultural Creatives (and YOU?)  often are attracted to the work of  architect Ross Chapin. Take a look at the photos here for a clue of his inspired design. NOTE: Photo Credits Ross Chapin of Pocket Neighborhoods. Creative planning, a reasonable amount of due diligence and and discovery can open the way to many positive aging experiences and possibilities.

With "radical" options like these - the idea of sustainable excellence  can be add-ordable, attractive and  affordable.

Pocket neighborhoods  “Clustered groups of neighboring houses or apartments gathered around a shared open space — a garden courtyard, a pedestrian street, a series of joined backyards, or a reclaimed alley — all of which have a clear sense of territory and shared stewardship. They can be in urban, suburban or rural areas."

Upsides: financial feasibility, aging-in-place with grace, environmental pluses, un-stuffing (living simply) and a sense of belonging in a caring community.

TODAY and/or in the future,
would  living where nearby neighbors can easily know one another
be attractive  you?

Do you believe that  it makes sense for Post-50 People
with far-flung families to look for friendship or a helping hand
closer to home?

Does it make sense to you to provide an environment
where children can have
"shirttail aunties and uncles just beyond their front gate”?

YOUR Predictions

YOU predicted that  the "boomers" and ALL STAKEHOLDERS  will blast right into that "New Vision of Aging"...and  new perspectives. For example- while many will go the traditional route and into geographical areas that offer an attractive quality of life and a relatively low cost of living, many others will opt  for the "aging-in-place" choice. Some will live, at least part of each year, in more than one place.

What does this mean and how does it look in terms of where we live and how we live?  The Sage Companion readers tell us you expect to engage life!  In another recent survey they reported, " We look to live healthy lives in homes that last and work for all- regardless of age or physical ability. We look forward to conversations with individuals - the sharing of life stories waiting to be told. We expect to discover and use age-friendly products- home automation, innovative technologies, assistive techniques  and ways to work with challenges."

And the Congressional Budget Office reports that boomers and older adults "... typically have higher income. . .and have accumulated . .. private wealth. "At The Sage Companion we research and report on lifestyles, home designs (universal design) that reflect this.

Aging 501 POSSIBILITIES

Bring your wisdom to the community, and all can have the opportunity to learn, grow and prosper as a result. Opt for influencing change with compassion- especially in terms of our dwelling places and continued independence expressed as sustainable excellence.  Stakeholders hold positive outlooks. This is seen in life-affirming trends, research, memoirs, comments and conversations. Leading edge boomers celebrate connections- to photo boards and music, to iPads, and on-going conversations and actions around changing outmoded stereotypes -redefining aging and prospects for positive futures 365 days a year.
