CANCER RESEARCH:
Researchers
at the University of Washington reportedly discovered that a certain
herb by itself can cause 28% reduction in breast cancer cells, but when
it was combined with iron, it can eliminate up to 98% of the cancer
cells without affecting the normal cells. “Not only does it appear to
be effective, but it’s very selective,” Professor Lai said. “It’s highly
toxic to the cancer cells, but has a marginal impact on normal breast
cells.”
When
the researchers at UW tested artemisinin-based compound on human
leukemia cells, they discovered that it was highly selective at
targeting and killing cancer cells.
The
chemistry professor at UW and the leading author of the study, Dr
Tomikazu Sasaki reported: “The artemisinin-based compound is like a
special agent planting a bomb inside the cell. This compound is
selective and effective for eliminating different cancers including
leukemia, breast and prostate in laboratory animals”.
In 2011, Tu was awarded the prestigious Lasker-DeBakey Clinical Medical Research Award for her discovery. The discovery of artemisinin is reportedly being considered for a Nobel Prize in Medicine.

ALZHEIMER'S RESEARCH
Proceedings of
the National Academy of Sciences Journal, 2013- found brain shrinkage was
reduced by 90 percent in particular areas of the brain most vulnerable
in Alzheimer's.Vitamins B6, B12 and folic acid lower levels of
homocysteine may reduce Alzheimer's disease risk.
